The project is organized on a linear plan: a large servant strip including the kitchen, the entrance, the bookcase and the dressing, covered by a stainless steel mesh façade facing the existing stone wall.
To see / to be seen / to look at: we develop those notions in our project:
- The stainless steel mesh façade protects the intimacy of the housing and creates a filter (by reflection on of the light) that allows the inhabitant to look through the courtyard without being seen.
- The skylight is the main source of natural light but doesn’t offer any view to the outside.
- On the opposite, the window on the mezzanine level outlooks toward the garden and is reflected by a full height mirror that brings natural light and view to the ground floor.
The project sets up different processes to enlarge the feeling of space: the mirror operates as a space enlarger and creates a tight visual relation between the two levels, emphasized by the suspended mezzanine and the transparency of the few steps leading to the terrace.
This project was drawn as a set design of domestic space in which each common use and practice is re-thought.
