1.AREAS
Only the shell of the original printing house is preserved, creating a weatherproof yet not airtight capsule. A new biotope is introduced into the capsule. Some of its areas are buffer zones left unheated (garden, circulation areas, water-closet and utility room) while others (living-room, bedrooms) benefit from heat insulation. They are divided by movable glass or woodwork partitions that can open. Thus, when temperature allows it, these two zones combine, creating a common environment.
2. SEQUENCES
The sequences of this project match our client’s strong personality. Common uses are idealized in a narrative way. The shower is elevated amongst the trees, bathing becomes an intimate experience of the surrounding vegetation as water’s primal aspect is enhanced. By juxtaposing everyday activities into new contexts, we transform body motions: generating new customs. Interior space rises up, revealing sunlight. Sensitive to this invitation, the resident straightens up.
3.PATH
The itinerary creates a continuity in the building that connects the sequences to each other. The vertical climb of the monumental stairway is punctuated by landings where the “actor” of these sequences witnesses his own motions.
The wide surface of the wall becomes a theatrical setting as a screen upon which his movements are staged.
