PURPOSES:
-
To preserve the panoramic view of the city’s roof plan
- To sort out the lack of volume, low ceiling height and small number
of windows of an attic apartment
- To create a conversation between the original zinc rooftop and
its possible evolution.
PROJECT:
Thrusting,
and almost erupting, the metal sheets rise one by one. They unfold,
expand and individually crease in uneven ways as an echo to the
neighbouring rooftops. The resulting gaps allow sunlight to come
into the apartment, significantly modifying its volume as it swells
and bursts open.
We
explode the building’s roof zinc stripes. The terrace emerges
from decrescendo back to the original roof lines which form the
new terrace. Perfectly horizontal strips turn into the terrace’s
floor.
In this urban landscape, our plan offers
a diversion, an original eye pleasing disruption that highlights
the typicall 19th century stylistic features so Parisian. Each urban
object referees all the others resulting in well-balanced urban
landscape.
