The rue Laghouat is a quiet street (no shops) and composed of mineral and hermetic buildings through which we hardly perceive the backyards. Our project was designed in opposition to the monotony we felt walking around the neighbou rhood. The collective spaces of the project are visually linked to the street area:
1-The first floor of the project creates a sequence in one’s walk. A part of the building that faces the street is cantilevered and works as a covered big porch sheltering the bikes.
2-The façade of the building is divided into two parts, what enables the visitor to look from the street till the end of the parcel.
3-This opening is emphasized by the slope of the eastern building façade and the diverging profiles of the two parts of the whole.
4-The vertical and horizontal apartments circulations are outdoor and visually link the street to the back of the lot. The movement of the inhabitants on these common outdoor circulation spaces takes part of the street’s life.
The green area is the continuity of the neighbour parcel’s garden. The garden is shared by all the inhabitants. All the living rooms overlook the interior of the parcel, taking advantage of southern or western orientation. The north façade overlooking the street does only let the light get into the bedrooms and kitchens.
